The way I was introduced to Battle Royale was through the manga. I sort of liked it, so I picked up the book at Borders and read it in about 2 days. Then I read it about 4 more times. Then by a stroke of luck I found a box set of Battle Royale and Battle Royale II: Requiem on DVD. I have seen both of them countless times.

Anyone else care to share their stories about how the found out about BR?

Battle Royale Radioplay [02 Jun 2005|10:14pm]

Although I have most main characters at this point I am still looking for minor characters and side characters for my battle royale radioplay! It is based off the manga and I finally have the first chapter's script up.

I'd love for everyone to check it out and see what they think.

What is this community? [31 May 2005|10:08pm]

[ mood | confused ]

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this is a community for discussing Battle Royale the book. After reading the last few posts, it sounds like this is a BR role playing community. So which is it? I joined this as a fan of the book, not for role playing.

Whoo. Brock made me do it.

I've seen about 5 minutes of the movie not read the book, but I am interested in the concept. The idea of a place like that is intreaging.

My name is Sonny. I will hurt you with a lightsaber.

To jason's request to do something. We could start a dialougeishthing of posts, kind of like an RPG, and act out a Battle Royale. We elect someone to be the moderator and issue weapons, location and judge it.

I think that would be intresting to do over a period of time.

If it's alright with all of you I would like to join this.

(My name is Dave, but you can call me whatever you want I guess)

I have read the book a lot and thats how I was introduced to Battle Royale. I love everything Battle Royale has to offer. Books,Manga,Movies...everything. It is the coolest thing I have ever been introduced to and i'm kind of addicted to it, but I think I will be ok.

As far as favorite characters go I like Shinji Mimura,Shougo Kawada, Shuya Nanahara, Hiroki Sugimura, Noriko Nakagawa and Takkako Chigusa.

Hi, I'm new. [16 May 2005|07:33pm]

Hi, I saw a post about this community in the other Battle Royale community so I thought I would join. Well, my name is Shenala (no its not my real name but that's what I go by online) and I'm in my mid-teens and live in New York.

I'm really glad that there is a community for just the book because that's how I was originally introduced to the Battle Royale fandom. My best friend had been talking about the book for ages and was trying to get her hands on a copy of the movie. When she tried to get me to read it I was a little hesitant because she told me how violent it was. But I'm really glad that I decided to read it now even though it is extremely violent (the book's probably a lot more violent then the movie actually) the plot is just amazing. I readily admit I have a pretty short attention span and books that have 10 characters, let alone 40+ would usually confuse me to no end. But Battle Royale is just incredible because you really become involved in the lives of 40 people (well almost 40). Which is why I'm glad that someone's recognizing the work of the author because sure the movie is good but the director had a lot to work off of (although don't get me wrong the movie adds on a bit but it leaves out a LOT too).

My favorite characters are definitely Mizuho Inada, Takako Chigusa, Shugo Kawada, and Shinji Nanahara (not in order). Anyway, I'm glad to be part of this community. :)

I am new to this community, and have just finished the book two weeks ago (saw the movie afterwards and had really no idea what the book was about forehand) and I am just curious who other people consider their favorite character in the book? Mine is Kinpatsu Sakimochi (I spelled that from memory so forgive me if it is incorrect). he may not have been one of the students, but he was a complete and total badass.

Hey i found this community from another battle royale community. it intrigued me that it was based only on the novel. this caught my attention right away because of the movie, manga, and novel, i have to say the novel is the best of the three. dont get me wrong. its awesome watching my favorite scenes unfold infront of me on the television, and read and view the manga is fun as well. but i didnt get the feeling i get when i read the book. it was awesome. ive read it multiple times already becuase it was just that good. so my names hector and im from texas and im 17 and me and a few friends found out about battle royale while browsing around the internet and the infatuation for battle royale began. so thats it. i just wanted to introduce myself. and thanks for this community.

Intro [10 May 2005|07:57pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

Hello, everyone!

My name's KZ (short for KoochiZibble, but that's too much trouble to type 95% of the time), I'm in Britain and I am generally a rather obsessive fangirl. (Admittance is the first step to recovery, they say)

I started on the Battle Royale manga (which remains my favourite of the three types), but the novel was my second and I really enjoyed it too; for some reason, the manga had a habit of fleshing out the main characters to the extreme, but forcing minor characters so far into the background that they were in two frames at most. The novel doesn't do that, and I love it for that.
The movie... well, it had its merits - as in, it was quite a good movie, but it doesn't hold a candle to the novel and manga. As Kiriyama is a character I have rather a morbid fascination with, the fact that he was reduced to a plot device irked me a bit.

As for my favourite characters - Numai Mitsuru (I have a thing for badasses, and when they're badasses I can find slash connotations for, all the better), Tsukioka Sho (well, he's a walking slash connotation, so, you know...) and Sugimura Hiroki (who is just such a good person it broke my heart to read his last chapters).

(As for contributions to the community and stuff - I'm in the middle of a manga-based LJ mood theme, so that'll be up for grabs when I'm done.)

Hmmm.... [08 May 2005|02:21pm]

[ mood | accomplished ]

I guess I never gave a proper introduction....I only said that I had just joined...

Let's see...I'm 16...I live in the southern United States (louisiana to be exact)...I heart BR so very very much!! Nakagawa Noriko is my all time favourite because I am most like her...Kawada Shogo and Chigusa (i don't remember her other name, I'm horrible!!) are my other favourites.

I watched the movie first, so I guess that's a good thing, or else I would have disliked it. Though I abosolutely fell in LOVE with the book. I call it my "bible" yep yep. Hehe...

I guess I'm going to help out and try and make a layout...just bear with me while I get used to things, kay?

I'm also so obsessed that I am making a fanfilm, because I couldn't be satisfied with just a fanfic...hehe...check out our progress here...and comment if you'd like! I'd like other BR fans' input!!

Eeep, having an Ingram M10 pointed at me I'm going to introduce myself now! *eyes jinxed_choker* o.O°
Well, I'm 22 years old and from Germany, just as an excuse for possible errors in grammar and spelling.

I wanted to wait with introducing myself as I've just started with the book. My friend lent it to me after she had to endure my horrible fangirling over the manga. I really really heart the manga and I can't wait for the novel.
I've always preferred books to movie adaptions simply because they can never put the feelings a book triggers in you into a movie.

I started with the movie and I believe that's the best way around if you don't wanna end up being disappointed by it.
The movie warps the characters too much, in my eyes. After I've read the manga I was all like WTF?! So many things got shoved aside in the movie. I have to say I still like the movie, but it's like a whole different story.

I mean, who didn't feel sorry for Kitano in the end. But Kinpatsu Sakamochi really is a despicable asshole on the other hand. Not to mention the horrible canon rape they put on Kiriyama.

I'm also writing fanfics. If you're into yaoi/slash or yuri/femslash I promise you at least one fic which I'm currently writing on.

Other than that I have only a colorbar of Kiriyama I could provide so far. You can find it here. I've already posted it on the battle_royale community, chances are you know it.
I used pics from the manga.

Hm, anything else? Well, expect me to be much more of a fangirl as soon as I've finished the book.

My fav charas are Kiriyama, Mimura, Chigusa and Mitsuko. ^^v

Hope to have lots of fun here. :)

Intro goodness [09 May 2005|08:45am]

[ mood | content whatever.... ]

I heard about the movie through a couple of people - classic horror dot com gave it a decent review, but I'm not a big fan of blood and gore, so I nevertheless stayed away. It wasn't until about a year later that I heard something about it again from a friend, found some free time and looked it up. When I found out the original story was from a novel, I got excited. I was lucky (apparently - I've heard from most people that the actual book is hard to find and usually has to be ordered...) in that the first Barnes & Noble I wandered into, they had it right on the shelf....

The book was finished within a few days, and it wasn't until then that I knew I had to sit through the movie. And I did, although I will say that I am too much of a wus not to have looked away at some parts. No big surprise here, but the movie didn't do the book justice, but then again, Takami's novel is the kind of book that just can not be translated as well throughi images as it can through words. The heart of the book rests on the fact that you get to look into the lives of all the students and what exactly they are going through during the game. In the movie, you get a pretty good glimpse at maybe 4 or 5. And even those aren't really done justice in comparison to the depths the book digs into. But unless you do a lot of narration or commentary, you just can't do the kind of character analysis that the novel accomplishes in a movie....

Anywho, love the book and am itching to get it back from the friend I lent it to so I can start all over again....

This was interesting.. So I just had to join!

My name is Leah and I'm 18. I remember hearing about Battle Royal and thinking "That sounds awesome." Of course a year went by and I couldn't find the book any where.. Then one fateful day at the Gamezilla in Moncton, I stumbled across the book in all its gloriness, almost had a heat attack, and bought it.

It was so amazing! It was a book that really made me think "What would I do in that situation?"

I saw the movie, and well it wasn't really like the book (big surprise there) I still enjoy it to some degree. Never saw the second though.. I'm not sure I want to either..
